For this week’s Mintage Monday, I return to one of my early posts for a bit of a departure from the norm: a coin comparison!

When I joined the Dinosaur Island: Totally Liquid campaign, I – of course – opted for the extreme edition, in no small part for the coins. But I also found out that due to some customers’ complaints, Pandasaurus Games had changed the coins from those included in the first printing.

While I can dig for logical explanations, I still can’t wrap my brain around complaining the coins were too thick and heavy. People thought they were too good, is what my coin-addled brain is telling me.

So, as soon as I got my copy of D.I., I put the word out: If someone out there who doesn’t like the original coins wants to trade me for some of the new ones, I’ll trade straight across. And someone took me up.

These original coins are ASTOUNDING. By far the thickest, heaviest, most ridiculous coins in my collection, and truly worthy of the “Extreme” in Extreme Edition. (I mean, just look at that comparison pic!)

While the new coins are just fine – I still have them for Duelosaur Island – the old ones are nothing short of spectacular.

But, to be fair, the coins do weight 2.5 lbs all on their own, and bring the EE box up to nearly 9 lbs!
