I missed Mintage Monday last week!
Well this week it’s back, and focused on another set of real currency: Ukrainian Hryvna!
Over the last few years I’ve received a lot of recommendations for Ukrainian coinage as a money replacement for board games. I bought quite a bit of various denominations of kopiyeks, and for this particular application… I wasn’t very impressed.
The 1 hryvna coins, on the other hand, are great! Slightly larger than a U.S. quarter, with a fantastic shine and a great sound. They have a very beautiful design, as long as you don’t mind religious iconography.
In the case of Village, a game with a church as part of the central theme, I really don’t! They go great with the game, and would be a fantastic addition to just about any game that only needs a single denomination.
