Hey. HEY!

It’s Mintage Monday time!

This week, I treat you to some of the cheapest fake metal coins you can lay hands on: generic “pirate dubloons”!

Now, just because they’re cheap doesn’t mean they’re bad! They’re a good size and weight (about the same as a US quarter), they sound and feel good, and they’re a great boost for pirate-themed games.

Mine, in particular, reside in our copy of Libertalia.

There are a few downsides. They’re all the same design, and the finish choices aren’t great. They come in shiny gold and silver – both of which look just fine – and “antiqued” versions of both which are… just okay. The lack of a “copper” option is a bit of a problem, as the “antique” and “shiny” silvers are sometimes hard to tell apart.

Overall, though, they are a FANTASTIC value at about $22 for 100 coins on Amazon. If you dig, you can find them even cheaper elsewhere, like eBay.
